I’m a Master Cosmetologist with a penchant for clean, effective skincare, so this will be a very thorough review…

First things first, I’m 32, and haven’t been religious about daily sun protection in the past, but then again I spend very little time outside. The sun protection I was using prior to this product, was Andalou BB/CC Cream. The problem with using tinted moisturizers or foundations for spf, is that I wasn’t slathering my face as thoroughly as I should have, so in that sense, the SPF30 in my tinted moisturizer isn’t as effective as the SPF30 in an actual sunscreen product. That is why I ordered the Goddess Garden 3.7oz. Facial Sunscreen instead of the Goddess Garden SPF30 primer from this same site: the cheaper price ensures I’ll be more liberal with the product resulting in better sun protection.

The next aspect is the ingredients. I actually study ingredients (as in, EVERY ingredient that goes into any product that I consider), and this particular formulation is the cleanest AND most skin-nourishing formula I’ve ever found (and believe me, I’ve looked everywhere!). I prefer to think of this as more of a skin treatment with SPF, because it has a lot of vitamin e-rich ingredients (such as safflower and sunflower oils), and vitamin e is very important for people who use a vitamin c serum in the daytime. I also appreciate how the only essential oils in this product are Helichrysum and Lavender (which not only happen to be my favorite essential oils for skincare, but they are NOT phototoxic like all the citrus oils are. SO many natural sunscreens on the market include citrus oils which actually make your skin more prone to sun damage). The formulators of the product really knew what they were doing, which can be rare with natural products.

Lastly, how easy is this product to apply to skin? This would be my only complaint, you can’t just “slather and go” as you could with a chemical sunscreen. That’s just how physical sunscreens are, ladies, and that’s the reality of it. They go on white with a tacky feel, and require a different technique for spreading the product than you would use foe chemical sunscreena. What I do is apply a nickel sized amount to the pads of my four fingers and mush my hands together a couple times, then I start patting the product all over my face. It will take a LOT of patting to get the sunscreen to adhere evenly to the skin. So plan on patting for at least 4 minutes until the product is correctly distributed (yes, pat your eyes too). Then apply to the neck area (and any other exposed areas) with the same technique. Thankfully, most of the tacky feel will fade within 30 minutes of application, but your skin will still be dewy to the touch since thus is an emollient product (as a good physical sunscreen SHOULD be) so you may not like this if you have oily skin. I use this on top of a light moisturizer, and I don’t apply makeup over it, although I don’t imagine that would be easy or effective.

How does this product look? It will lighten the look of your skin with the stereotypical white cast that physical sunscreens are notorious for. Again, this is to be expected with ANY physical sunscreen. I suggest applying an emollient based concealer under your eyes after you apply the sunscreen, so you can look “dewy and bright” instead of washed out. I actually like the look it gives me since the zinc oxide reflects light and actually helps smooth out my skin tone and blend out my hyperpigmentation without having to apply makeup.

How does it smell? DIVINE! A wonderfully formulated product. I like to think of it as a sunscreen AND a skin treatment. It has kept my chapped skin at bay so far, and this is wintertime right now when my skin tends to by dry and taut.

I love this product, and it works well for my personal skincare needs. If you wear makeup everyday, or have super oily skin, or hate having a white cast, then this sunscreen isn’t for you (and frankly, neither is any other physical sunscreen on the market. Sorry, but it isn’t really possible to “have it all” when it comes to sunscreen).

Hope this helped! I’m glad I stocked up with two bottles, so I won’t be without sun protection when I make my next order… and I WILL be re-purchasing in the future!
