Q: What is the difference between natural and conventional sunscreen?
A: Conventional sunscreens rely on chemical ingredients to absorb the sun’s UVA and UVB (ultraviolet) rays. These chemicals are absorbed by the skin and have been shown to cause hormone disruption and can break down over time into free radicals which may cause skin cancers. Natural sunscreen uses only natural ingredients and minerals to block the sun’s rays, and are recommended by the Environmental Working Group as the best sunscreen ingredients available. Q: What makes natural sunscreens effective? How do they work?
A: Goddess Garden uses natural minerals, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, to block the sun’s damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays naturally. Minerals create an invisible shield that bounces the sun’s rays off the skin, offering the best sun protection available!
Q:I’ve heard I need to apply sunscreen a long time before going outside. Is this true for natural sunscreens too?
A:Natural sunscreen is effective in blocking sun immediately, compared with conventional sunscreen which must be applied 15-20 minutes before sun exposure to see results. In the strong summer sun, sunburns can take place within 10 minutes.
Q:I have tried other natural Sunscreens and they left my skin feeling pasty, greasy and white. Are all natural sunscreens the same?
A:No, Goddess Garden Sunscreens are made with a sheer form of Zinc Oxide that is virtually transparent. The lotion base is a high-end shea butter lotion that leaves your skin soft and healthy. Our sunscreens are non-greasy, sheer and easy to apply

Q:Do I have to use sunscreen everyday? I only drive to and from work and then I’m inside all day.
A:Sun damage occurs daily especially in the summer months, and even when it’s cloudy. Please check out our UV rating meter on the LEARN page. You can enter your zip code and check out the daily UV rating in your neighborhood. This is the most accurate way to determine whether you need sunscreen!
Q:How much sunscreen should I use? How often should I reapply?
A:When using mineral-based sunscreen you can apply and go outside: the minerals protect your skin immediately. In terms of quantities to use: apply about a teaspoon of sunscreen to your face and about a palm-full (1 ounce) to your whole body. Reapply immediately after swimming and sweating excessively.

A:We make Goddess Garden Sunscreens with 82% certified organic ingredients including aloe vera, shea butter and lavender.
Q:If Goddess Garden Sunscreen is 82% organic, what makes up the other 18%?
A:A large portion, 12-20 percent, of the Goddess Garden Sunscreen formula is minerals. While minerals are very effective as a sun block, minerals cannot be certified organic. Therefore, the organic content in Goddess Garden Sunscreen is as high as possible.
Q:Do Goddess Garden Sunscreens make you ‘white’ like some of the natural sunscreens on the market?
A:No, Goddess Garden Sunscreens are made with a sheer form of Zinc Oxide that is virtually transparent. The base is a high-end shea butter lotion that leaves your skin soft and healthy.
Q:What are your products scented with?
A:We use only the pure distilled botanical Lavender Essential Oil from high-altitude French Lavender to scent our sunscreens.
Q:What do you use as a preservative?
A:We use Potassium Sorbate which is a food-grade preservative.
Q:What minerals do you use?
A:In most of our sunscreens we use two minerals, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, to block the sun’s rays. We use a sheer form of Zinc Oxide that is virtually transparent. Our new Baby Suncreen only uses Zinc Oxide since it’s recommended by the FDA as the best sun protection available for use on babies.
Q:Do you use nano-particles in Goddess Garden Sunscreens?
A:No. All of the minerals we use in our Sunscreens are larger than 100 nm (nanometers). Over 15 scientific studies have proven that neither zinc nor titanium soak in below the dermal layer of the skin. Please see the EWG page on our website for more information and links to the EWG.
Q:I’m going snorkeling in the Caribbean, is your sunscreen reef-safe?
A:Lucky you! Yes, Goddess Garden Sunscreens are biodegradable and reef safe. Enjoy!
Q:I’m vegan – what about your Sunscreens?
A:You’ll be glad to learn that Goddess Garden’s Sunscreens are indeed vegan. No animal products are used in our formulas, and all products are cruelty free as well.
Q:I’m on a gluten-free diet. Are your sunscreens gluten-free?
A:Yes, our Sunscreens do not contain gluten or wheat-derived products. However, with all allergic sensitivies, we recommend trying our Sunscreen on the inside of your elbow 24 hours prior to use to make sure it works for you.
Q:I’m opposed to animal testing, Are your sunscreens tested on animals?
A:No, we don’t believe in animal testing either, and our products are not tested on animals.

Q:There are chemical sunscreens on the market with SPFs of 50 and higher. Why do you only offer SPF 30? Isn’t higher better?
A:Goddess Garden’s Sunscreens are rated SPF 30 offering wide UVA and UVB protection to bounce 97% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays off. Conventional sunscreens using chemicals as sun block can achieve an SPF 50 rating, but these only protect skin from 1% more UV rays, or 98% of the sun’s UV rays.
Q:What is the difference between the Kid’s and Adult Sunscreen?
A:Same awesome formula, but the Kid’s Sunscreen has a lighter scent as children are more sensitive to fragrance.
Q:Can I use Goddess Garden Natural Sunscreen on my kids or is it only for Adult use?
A: Both Sunscreens are gentle enough to use on your kids’s skin. The main difference is that the Kid’s Sunscreen has a lighter scent since children are more sensitive to fragrances. Children also love the ladybug!
Q:What is the difference between the Kid’s and the Baby Sunscreen?
A:Goddess Garden Kid’s Sunscreen contains a synergistic blend of active ingredients, including both Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, as well as a light scent from organic lavender essential oil. The Baby Sunscreen is fragrance free, and contains one active ingredient, Zinc Oxide, recommended by the FDA for use on sensitive baby skin. Also our Baby Sunscreen is nut oil-free.

Q:When do I apply sunscreen?
