Starting with the first batch of sunscreen mixed in the family kitchen, our skincare products use all natural ingredients to protect the skin and feed it the nourishment it needs. Because every ingredient comes from nature, all our organic skincare products are safe for people and the planet. And if you’re wondering about those long names in parenthesis after some ingredients, don’t worry! They’re based on the ingredient’s scientific name and are required on cosmetic packaging. Baobab Seed Oil (Adansonia Digitata)

As a food, baobab is a good source of vitamin C, energy, protein and fat. Super high in vitamin E, essential fatty acids and other nutrients, its benefits extend past food and can also be used to “feed” the skin nutrients. A natural humectant, baobab softens, hydrates and improves skin elasticity, and is growing in popularity as an ingredient for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Baobab could replace propylene glycol, a chemical humectant.

Bergamot Peel Oil (Aurantium Bergamia)

Extracted by cold pressing the ripe, fresh peel or rind from the bergamot orange, bergamot oil is an essential oil with a sweet, citrusy scent. A key flavoring in Earl Grey tea, bergamot oil has long been used in perfumes. It is used in aromatherapy to relieve stress, lift the spirits and aid in treating depression. We use a bergaptene-free version of bergamot so it does not cause sun sensitivity.

Beta Glucan

Derived from oats, beta glucan is structurally similar to hyaluronic acid. It hydrates the skin and helps form a smoothing and tightening protective barrier that can replace chemical plasticizers like phthalates and polyethylene glycol (PEG-12) that are sometimes used to soften skin. Studies have shown beta glucan can improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Black Elder Flower Extract (Sambucus Nigra)

A strong antioxidant, it provides flavonoids such as quercetin and rutin. Quercetin, a natural alternative to retinol, is high in antioxidants and can help ward off the appearance of aging. Rutin is another antioxidant that promotes circulation. Black elder’s anti-edema qualities also help fight puffiness. It is the same plant as the elderberry, which is often used to boost the immune system.

Buddleja Davidii Extract

Also known as the butterfly bush, buddleja is a powerful antioxidant that helps mitigate oxidative stress. It boosts the skin’s natural defense against UV-induced DNA damage. The buddleja we use comes from organic flowers, and fits the philosophy of supporting farmers, preserving natural sites, protecting rare plants and supporting alpine biodiversity.
