We’re thrilled to be among 1,550 certified B Corporations who all have one unifying goal: To redefine success in business!
Why Do We Need to Redefine Business?
To answer that, we need to look at what most often defines business now. “Business” is defined as:
- An occupation, profession or trade.
- The purchase and sale of goods in an attempt to make a profit.
- A person, partnership or corporation engaged in commerce, manufacturing or a service; profit-seeking enterprise or concern.
It’s all about profits and that’s not sustainable. Doing what’s right for people and the planet is—and that’s the type of business that will ultimately thrive. B Corp recognizes and helps businesses do just that.
What Is B Corp?
Certified B Corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. B Corps are important because they inspire all businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. The certification helps consumers identify change makers, and helps investors make profits, all while making a difference. All businesses have a bottom line, but B Corps focus on the triple bottom line—people, planet and profit—in that order. B Corps recognize companies for running their business with a holistic approach, and make it a legal requirement for businesses to consider how their decisions effect their employees, community, consumers and the environment.
Becoming a B Corp
At Goddess Garden , we’ve always been committed to doing things the “right” way. Founder and CEO Nova Covington grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where she developed a strong appreciation for nature. She dedicated time every day to helping the earth, and it has always been a guiding passion in her life. She didn’t want her company to change that, so she set out to make sure her products only changed things for the better. That’s why all Goddess Garden products are made from gentle ingredients and why sustainability is such a big part of our daily business practices.
We became a B Corp because we’ve been trying to “be the change” we seek in the world since we made our very first product in the family kitchen. Transparency is in everything we do—from the sheerness of our sunscreen to the disclosure of our business practices. B Corp allows us to make that a legal guideline and set goals, guaranteeing our business will always continue to make the world a better place.
To become a Certified B Corp, we were given a rigorous set of performance standards by B Lab, the nonprofit that certifies B Corps. We answered more than 250 questions pertaining to all aspects of our business practices, including our mission, business model, community involvement, employee benefits, diversity and environmentally-friendly practices. By going through this process, we were able to see where we excelled and identify areas for improvement. We’ve already put some of those practices into place, and we’ll keep working to get even better!
We’re excited to be included among this group of businesses who are on the same path toward positive change. Stay on the lookout for other B Corp companies
